Common GustWings
GustWings are strange, feathered dragons that are larger than the dragons of the Isles, Pyrrhia, or even Pantala.
They are born dragon-killers, with sharp talons are made for cleaving through scales and beaks capable of cracking through dragon bone. GustWings capable of surviving intense cold due to their thick layer of feathers, which can have the pattern and colours of any bird, though most take after birds of prey. These featheres conceal their hard, brightly coloured scales. While mostly covered by their heavy feathers, in tropical or otherwise hot climates GustWings shed their feathers everywhere but their wings, revealing their keeled scales; they can be any colour, but are usually red, gold, or black, and very glossy. Should a GustWing spend enough time in a suitably cold climate, they will begin to regrow their feathers. However, GustWings without feathers are viewed as 'lesser', and may even be attacked by their fellow |
Royal GustWings
The only difference between commoner GustWings and the royals is a long, silky plume of feathers emerging from the base of their tails. These are considered a sign of their bloodline and kept well-groomed as a result.
However, like all GustWings, royals begin to have issues regrowing their feathers after moulting as they grow older. Their long, luxorious tail feathers are often the first to be lost; many older royals collect their own, or a family member's, shed tail feathers, and have them gilded. These feathers are used to replace their natural ones, so that they can hold on to the symbol of their status and power. Aging royals who do not try to upkeep their tail feathers are viewed as deliberately rejecting their power, and are forced to stay isolated in the Mountain Hold, or be exiled from Gust Island forever. |
