Regular VeilWings
There are no special subtypes of VeilWings, yet when they speak of their own abilities, they always say, 'regular VeilWings do... Regular VeilWings can...' No one is sure if this is simply the tribe trying to cultivate mystery where there is none, or if there really are VeilWings whose abilities are more than regular.
Either way, the truth is that all known VeilWings are gifted with abilities that allow them to survive in the desolate Island they call home, despite the near-toxic smog and bubbling hot lava pouring out onto the surface. While not fireproof, VeilWings are able to tolerate intense amounts of heat with only mild discomfort; stick a toe in lava and they'll loose it, but no matter how long or close they are to it, the heat won't bother them.
While their eyes are capable of handing extremely bright light, they can also navigate dark - or smoky - areas through the use of echolocation. The echoes of screeching VeilWings can be heard on the shores of their Island, often driving visitors away before they even try to enter the smog.
Some dragons breathe plumes of fire or spit venom, but VeilWings have a much more subtle ability; they can filter the ash and toxins out of the air they breathe, then expel said ashes and toxins in the form of noxious smoke. Depending on what they have breathed in, the smoke can actually be poisonous to non-VeilWing dragons. However, should a VeilWing spend a suspended period of time in an area with clean air, they will no longer have any ashes to expel in this manner; some dragons counter this by creating fires and purposefully inhaling smoke.
The least well-known ability of the VeilWings, however, is that they are capable of lighting their scales up from grays that blend in with their rocky island, to bright, psychedelic colours and patterns. While originally developed to stun prey, the display has been used in battle and proves to be extremely distracting, even terrifying to some enemy soldiers.
